#23 of 30 Paintings/30 Days Challenge

THERE IS A MAGIC COMPUTER FAIRY!  I haven't done anything different and all of a sudden(I've been checking each time I post here if I could download an image from my computer)  there is a "Browse" button where I can download images again.

Oh....about this square......I used a #10 long handle Winsor & Newton Bright brush.  I'm now using a full palette (warm/cool colors) to paint the rest of my daily paintings. (Yes, I missed yesterday do to family obligations).  I also tend to use one brush for an entire small Alla Prima painting.

I firmly believe  strokes of color (or line drawings) reflect how we feel mentally & physically when they are applied.   What I find fascinating with this pear series is when I step back and view how I've approached each square, some seem almost identical while others have a life of their own.

For instance.....#20 says "TA-DA"  while #22 says "tada" and almost the same color scheme is used.

I've also posted on the website the first two finished canvases so you can view what the squares look like next to eachother.  Now on to the last 24x18 canvas.  It will be titled "Rainbow Mix"  and I'm not limiting my palette to paint the subject in each square.

Square #20

Here's day 20 of January already.  I can't believe how fast time seems to be going this month.  Here's #20 of the 30 Paintings/30 Days Challenge.

The exciting thing is, I've sketched designs on 4 canvases this week.  One is 24x36 in size...a commission of a beautiful B & B in Bentonsport, IA.  The others are going to be fun florals.  Starting to receive show announcements in the mail.  I can't decide if I'll attend any outdoor shows this year.  I have a little time left to consider a few local shows. 

Setting up/tearing down at these outdoor shows is a lot of work.  Plus, one never knows what the weather will be like.  I used to do 15 shows a year.  Last year only 1. 

For now, I know I'll be busy helping customers and painting on the easel I have set up inside the Iron & Lace store in Bentonsport. The store will officially open in April for the 2013 season .  I'll be there 5 to 6 days a week until the end of October.  People from around the world find the small community and I enjoy hearing about their travels.

Well......back to work I go!  Anxious to show everything I'm doing.  Pictures will be posted on my website or facebook page.  Enjoy!

This is a version of the Pear where I used a fan brush to soften everything.  I like the affect!

It's nice viewing the pear squares together there. When all 30 paintings are posted, I'll show the three stretched canvases that are filled with the 6x6 squares.  It's been a fun journey so far.

Square #17 (warm palette)

I used a short handle 1/4"wide brush to paint #17.  (the opposite of #16)  I liked the control and blending I could do with laying on color to canvas with this size brush.  Unfortunately, it proved to be tedious for my hand.  

After having carpal tunnel surgery last year, I'm learning what I should and should not do if I don't want to continue to have issues with my wrists.  I believe my work will be evolving.......adapting a more "painterly" approach to applying paint to substrate (canvas, paper, board, etc.).

So, on to using long handled brushes....a bit wider then 1/4".
